The sentencing was overseen by Judge P.K. Holmes the third, in the United States District Court in Fort Smith.

Deputies were in pursuit of a black pickup truck, driven by Justin Battenfield, who had been recklessly running multiple red lights and passing vehicles on the shoulder of U.S. 71. The chase initiated when a U.S. Forest Service officer spotted Battenfield running a red light in Fort Smith and refusing to stop.

On June 20, 2023, the Colorado State Patrol received a call for assistance from the Otero County Deputies. They were in pursuit of a fleeing suspect on Highway 50 in Otero County. The suspect they were chasing had been reported to cause several accidents and even attempted to collide head-on with other vehicles. There were also reports of shots fired in connection with this suspect's actions.
Wild High-Speed Chase Goes Completely Wrong
An intense police pursuit ensued in South Little Rock off Dixon Road in Arkansas. The incident began when the Saline County Sheriff's Department attempted to pull over a black Chevrolet Silverado on Arch Street. The driver who was later identified as Edward Davis, refused to comply leading to a high-speed chase.
